Snow, snow, snow

Today we watched the snow fall through the window. Unfortunately it first was slit and the temperatures were probably a bit above freezing point so even though it snowed heavily for a good three hours nothing was left on this part of the city. I was quite amazed to discover later on in the news that it disrupted the whole South / Southwest suburbs with people trapped in their cars for hours waiting for the road transport authorities to remove the snow from the roads. I am quite happy since I kind of wanted to see some snow and I just got some following me around. I got some in Philadelphia, then moved to New York where it followed me and now Paris. I can happily go back to the Australian summer.

Cold wave

I continue to be fascinated by the cold wave that is hitting Europe. Flights delayed in Roissy and people stranded at the airport, school buses not operating, electricity production overheating and the list goes on and on. I will hopefully have a taste of this in a couple of weeks. Or hopefully not, since I realise it must be depressing after some days but I would not mind trying it for a few hours. I was actually thinking about this morning while I was cooling down in the swimming pool. Sorry for being sarcastic... I am just trying to be sincere. Erm...

Cold Winter

Everybody is complaining how cold the winter has been in Melbourne this year. Personally, I fully enjoy it as it is such a good relief from the hot and stinky Singapore weather. But having experienced long, grey and cold winters in Paris in the past I know exactly the effects it can have on the inhabitants sanity after a while (except that the skies usually are much bluer down here than in the Northern hemisphere). Anyway, one of the pleasures associated with the cold weather is the Hot Chocolate. And it does not come any better than in the numerous small cafés dotting Melbourne. The other enjoyable drinks in this coffee society are the heritage left by the Italians migrants in form of wonderful cafés and particularly café lattés in a glass!

Joyeuses Paques

Happy Easter.

After yesterday's awful day, today is graced with a beautiful sunny winter weather. Still cold but with a perfect blue sky. Exactly what I like about French winters (erm, isn't it supposed to be spring now?). Unfortunately, I will find myself in one of those planes again tonight to reach Singapore back tomorrow afternoon and face the humid and hot weather that prevails in that other part of the world.

It's winter, or is it?

That comes as a perfect warmer for such a pityful winter day. Today was all grey and cold and rainy and snowy and windy. Brrrr... As a result we headed to my sister's place to enjoy a nice winter mountainy dish called La Raclette (melted cheese) in front of the chimney.

Winter in the Countryside

After the Choucroute party yesterday the weather just got worse and worse by the minute with lots of rain and some gusting winds. Today it has all cleared up and as a result I could enjoy a nice walk through the neighbourhood. I quite like winter colours and atmosphere in this central part of France at this time of the year. Parasitic misletoes have also started to appear on otherwise baren trees.

La Choucroute

Ah! Winter... And its winter dish! La Choucroute. It really is something I would not eat during another season. Today has been all cold, windy and grey in France. Just the perfect time for a hearty saurkraut.
