Songs of the Sea

In the evening I did the tourist thing and went to Sentosa for the Songs of the Sea show at 7.40pm. I arrived there shortly after 7 and I was impressed by the human masses exiting from tour buses alighting one after the other. I did not really know what to expect with the show and feared the worst when the show started. It was so Mickey-mousey, so what I don’t like. But after all I believe it is mostly supposed to be a show for kids. Nevertheless, when the water, laser, light and fire show started it was difficult not to be impressed. I admit the techniques employed are quite impressive.

Makam Perang Jakarta

Hello from Jakarta. I am here for 24 hours and I am staying at my usual hotel. As you might know there is no much to see in this city. Just to give you an example, this is the view from my bedroom's window and it is one of the local attractions (!). The Jakarta War Cemetery contains the graves of many who died in defence of Java and Sumatra during the swift Japanese advance in 1942 and many others who perished afterwards as prisoners of war. Among the dead were sailors who fought in the Battle of the Java Sea, soldiers and airmen who died in flying battle and airfield defence.

The Singapore Flyer

I am yet to test this new attraction. I really enjoyed my ride on the London Eye at sunset on a beautiful spring day some years back as the views were truly fantastic. Today, the Singapore flyer is all over the news here as it started to 'fly' for a few private functions last night. Nevertheless, I am not sure the immediate surroundings have as much to offer as the London skyline except the opportunity to be able to see three countries at once (Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia). I am sure I will find myself in one of those capsules at one point or the other anyway...
