Mum, this is one of the chairs you might be enjoying while you're here. I have personally never used them since I could not really find the time but I am sure it is quite nice especially at sunset to just sit there with a glass and relax!

Port Moresby

Today I left the fine coastline of Queensland to fly up to Port Moresby for a few meetings. Last time I went there was 17 years ago on a stopover to the Huli tribes of the Highlands and the river villages of the Sepik. A wild and exotic experience. Unfortunately, the capital city is not as attractive as the rest of the country and there is not much to see and do. Still, you can enjoy the view of the stilt villages spread all around and you can have an idea from the picture above of how tiny the city is laying at the head of the point. I wish I could go back and explore some of the remote places of Papua instead of having to stay in the city.

Washington DC, Day Two

It is always strange to see for real those monuments you have been seeing since you have been a kid. The White House is probably the most ‘moving’. Lincoln Monument is somehow quite touching and Capitol Hill cannot fail to impress. Washington probably is a boring city in the long run but the it boasts a few amazing features like the National Mall (you will surely have seen it crowded with about 2 million people a couple of days ago during Obama’s historical speech). The National Mall is bordered by incredible free museums all administered by the Smithsonians. You could easily spend days and weeks exploring all the Art and education on offer.

Sunday

It is so enjoyable to have a lazy Sunday from time to time. I have actually kept my past weekends so busy that I had no time to rest as much as I would have loved to. But today started by a late morning in bed, followed by a late breakie. We then went out with a friend to Pulau Ubin to enjoy a very nice bike ride and walk. And came back to have a late lunch at Clarke Quay (picture above) after the clouds had cleared. The afternoon turned out to be quite beautiful with a lovely blue sky that is so rare in this City.

Geylang East

There are not many interesting facts I can report today as I have been fully and extremely busy at work but I could luckily make it back home before the sunset. The view above is from my living room window overlooking Geylang East and the sea far far away on this picture if you look at the skyline (but much nearer and more visible in reality since I can even see Batam on a clear day).

CBD

Today's an overview of the Central Business District. Nothing too captivating about the place. It is a bit like walking around Wall Street without the buzz and history. Nevertheless, it is still a nice City view from either the Merlion or even better if you happen to take a small tourist-oriented bumboat for a cruise around the harbour and up the river. It is also what could be considered as the 'south center' of the city.

Jakarta

Nothing much to report today as it is a post-wedding afternoon and I am quite tired as you can imagine. Here's the view from my hotel room. It nearly makes Jakarta look leafy and attractive. Actually, the view is much better than from the Park Lane hotel I used to regularly stay at over the past two years. Jakarta skyline was also quite clear this week-end (after the storm that hit Thousand Islands quite hard, that is!) which is a rare event as the atmosphere is usually so polluted.
