Japanese Sweets

Not that I am mad about sweets (to the exception of sugar free Fisherman's Friend I hardly eat any) but I often find myself buying some Japanese sweets. Just for the packaging... I like these old fashioned metallic tins and the images printed on them. As a result I find myself with a collection of sweets that are laying there untouched!

TiTi's best friend

Without any contest my best friend has to be the Fisherman's friend. I am totally addicted. I do not believe I ever mentioned it but it has been going on for years. I am totally lost without my white FF pills. I only recently read about the content and discovered it was nearly pure sorbitol and supposed to be as a result quite laxative. But my body must be so used to it that I do not recall experiencing any such related problem. My flavour is the 'Strong Mint'. I have tried them all but nothing gives me as much pleasure as the white and green stripes packet. I forgot to add it was sugar free, if it matters at all?

Putu Piring

Am I turning this blog into a dessert adventure? I must admit that the aim of these pages is to talk about anything but work. The highlight of the day definitely was the pleasure to finally taste those famous Putu Piring. I had been seeing permanent long queues in front of this stall at Banquet beside Haig Road hawker centre and was wondering what these sweets looking like indian idlis were. The area is the place of choice for everything Malay. Putu Pirings are delicate steamed rice flour cakes with a gula melaka center (brown sugar). They also have a sweet scent of pandan leaves. I now understand why people are ready to queue for hours for the privilege.
