She's back!

A few weeks ago I was telling you about the Stella Deneb that is the biggest Cattle Vessel in the world. Amazingly, she was back at Darwin Port today to load another huge load of cows. I was surprised to note that she had changed name since her last trip though! She is now called the Ocean Shearer. Not so appropriate for cows but I am sure the kiwis will appreciate when she goes there for a big sheep load the next time.

Darwin from Fisherman's Wharf

This is a view of Darwin city centre from Fisherman's Wharf. This port is actually a nice place to come in the morning and get fresh fish (Barramundi of course), bugs or prawns directly from the boats. If you prefer to get your fresh seafood from a shop you can also pop in Mr Barra next door where they are quite passionate about freshness and quality.

Japanese research vessel

I saw this vessel at the Port this morning. Nothing exceptional except that a fence had been set all around to forbid access. A bit odd considering that you do not usually see this kind of actions in that part of the world. It then made me wonder why this could be? It could be linked to the fear any Green group might want to take this opportunity to board the boat as protests are still common and ongoing, especially in Australia, against the Japanese who continue the whaling - supposedely over the legal quota and also supposedely for research purposes. This vessel is not a whaling vessel but a Marine Research Vessel... Any info welcome.

Karimun Island

Today I went by Ferry to the Island of Karimun in Indonesia (above picture is the Ferry Arrival facility at the main city, Tanjung Balai). There is definitely not much on that Island but the contrast between Singapore and Karimun is pretty amazing. This place used to be a gambling and prostitution paradise for Singaporeans before the Indonesian government decided to put a halt to the gambling... but ironically not the prostitution.

Containers

I know it is quite a common sight for many but today I happened to drive past the Port and there was this big container vessel loading its shipment so i could not resist. I have always enjoyed the sight of all those colourful boxes stacked on top of each other.
